Another
Kids Hope Story
Sybil was a second grader when she was matched with
Miss Twila, her KIDS HOPE USA mentor. Over weight with no
self-esteem, she was painfully shy. Sybil
had no friends.
It was impossible for her to look into Miss Twila's
face. Instead, she looked down and her long brown hair completely
covered her face. Time after time the mentor encouraged Sybil to look at
her when she spoke. And Sybil would try, but her eyes would quickly
turn away.
Three years later, Sybil is a changed child. She is no longer shy,
she looks at Miss Twila when she speaks, and she has friends. She
has learned to love and value herself.
For three years, Sybil heard Miss Twila tell her that
she can be anything she wants to be. She decided that she wants to
be a veterinarian.
